Some love it, Some hate it.
I’m talking Valentine’s Day. I know this is a very polarizing ”holiday”. I’ve spent time in both camps. I’ve loved it and I’ve fallen victim to the ‘hate it’ camp. I see the points to both sides really. If you love it you want to decorate, love, share and bestow copious amounts of hugs, kisses and affection on those you love maybe followed by a special dinner. Maybe the copious amounts of hugs and kisses will come after dinner and lead to copious amounts of…oh nevermind, let’s get back to my point here. These days I fall into the ‘love it’ camp again.
Yeah the jacked up flower prices and lines to get into mediocre restaurants are a pile of crap. However you don’t need to spend money on Valentine’s Day. And yes I hear those of you saying that we shouldn’t need a day to remind us to tell those we love that we love them or to show them that they are special to us and again, good point. However, I believe that love is lovely and to have a day just devoted to love and hearts, hugs and kisses is special. I have 3 beautiful children to love and hug and kiss and to teach to love every day and this is a day to really let the love shine in and out. Embrace it people. It’s not about a significant other…it’s about love. Love your parents, love your siblings, love your children, love your spouse, love your pets, love your friends and most of all love YOURSELF.
You are important and beautiful and kind and there is only one you. Make yourself a nice dessert, get your nails done, spend an hour in the bath, read a book, work out, do something for yourself to show yourself some love. Do something nice and loving for someone else. Do this not only because it’s Valentine’s Day but because you love yourself, and them (whoever they are) every single day and yes also because this is the one day we’ve chosen to celebrate all together at the same time (we’re busy people and we schedule everything these days so why does Valentine’s Day get such a bad rap).
All that being said… I’ve been under the weather fighting off a terrible cold for the last few days and have not had time to take pics of our gift for the kids and our craft with the kids and it won’t get done in time for Valentine’s Day so I thought the least I could do is gather up a few links to gather inspiration from if you like to decorate for the day or if you are feeling crafty to give a try.
Here’s 5 links to some crafts around the web that I really like.
What we are doing for our kids
We are giving the kids new mugs to drink their hot chocolate from, some tasty hot chocolate and a stir stick of chocolate dipped marshmallows (which I will be making). They will also each get a new pair of scissors for crafting. I’ll also be doing my best to make heart shaped crust for our home made pizza on Friday night and we’ll pick something extra lovey for our movie night….maybe I’ll even swindle Mark into watching a girly movie with me when the kids go to bed.
And now 5 beautiful love quotes to warm hearts on this cold winter’s day.
Love, love, love….All you need is love!!!
The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.
Love is the flower you’ve got to let grow.
Where there is love there is life.
Love is the closest thing we have to magic.
Ahhhh don’t you just LOVE it? Embrace it people, embrace it.
Whatever you do, I hope you have a very Happy Valentine’s Day.
